Food Industry Scam Alert - Sunday, February 14, 2010
Food Protection Partners:  This is to advise you of the resurgence of a “scam” that seems to be circulating nationwide.  This has happened locally in Morehead.  In the scam, someone pretending to be the “health department” contacts a local restaurant (usually an ethnic-type facility) to schedule an inspection.  During the telephone conversation, the caller attempts to obtain information from the restaurant operator, and tells the operator that the restaurant may be fined for non-compliance.

Within the 30-45 days, the Food Safety Branch has been advised by our Local Health Department partners in Marshall and Franklin Counties that ethnic restaurants in their counties have been targeted.  If you become aware of additional instances in your respective counties, please advise this office so we can inform representatives the Kentucky Attorney General’s Office.
